Prefinished Steel
Prefinished steel is the most popular and cost effective metal roofing material available. Prefinished steel's popularity stems from its cost effectiveness, low maintenance and easy scalability for large building projects. Don't write off prefinished steel as some sort of poor low quality material though. Prefinished steel offers a consistent high quality paint finish, strong corrosion resistance with its zinc coating and excellent durability lasting 25 to 50 years. Overall prefinished steel is the best choice for developers in need of a cost effective material that gets the job done right.

Galvalume
Galvalume is a modern innovation on galvanized steel and has become a popular material in metal roofing. Traditional galvanized steel has a simple coating of zinc to protect itself from corrosion. Galvalume is an alloy made of 55% aluminum, 43.4% Zinc and 1.6% silicone. This offers better corrosion resistance and a longer lifespan of 50 to 60 years than galvanized steel. Galvalume is also backed by a 25 and a half year substrate warranty and often comes with a paint warranty to further protect your investment. (Note: Warranties are not available for Galvalume products within 1,500 feet of a coast.) Overall Galvalume is the best choice for developers who are willing to pay a little more for a balance of durability and value away from a coastline.

Aluminum
Aluminum is another common metal roofing material. It's well suited for coastal regions, hurricane zones, regions with a lot of rain or snowfall and regions with high temperatures. Aluminum is well suited for these harsher environments simply because aluminum doesn't rust, so environmental elements such as sea salt spray will have no effect on the substrate. Aluminum is also a very lightweight material, being only half the weight of steel. This allows for easier transportation, handling, installation and it puts less stress on the building's structure. Aluminum is a highly recyclable material too, making it a very sustainable option. Overall aluminum is the best choice for developers building in corrosive regions and value ease of use.

Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is a speciality metal roofing material made out of iron, chromium and a variety of other elements. Stainless steel roofing is made to withstand the most extreme weather and temperature climates. Being able to efficiently reflect thermal temperatures away from the building and not become brittle under constant freezing temperatures. Stainless steel is also renowned for its heavy durability, being considered one of the world's most powerful and sturdy metal alloys. Having the ability to withstand corrosion and degradation for 60+ years. Overall stainless steel is the best choice for developers that demand a lot from their roofs and value durability and corrosion resistance above all else.

Copper
Copper is a premium metal roofing material that has been used in architecture for hundreds - if not thousands - of years. Copper is highly coveted for its stunning beauty, having a reddish-orange/brown aesthetic that enhances the appearance of any building. As copper ages, it develops a blue-green patina which further adds to copper's aesthetic appeal. Copper is not just for looks only though. When copper is properly installed, it can last over 100 years and provide strong protection from high wind, heavy snow and frequent rainfall. Copper is also a lightweight material when compared to steel, which puts less stress on the building's structure. Overall copper is the best choice for developers willing to pay more for aesthetic beauty, durability and protection from environmental elements.

Zinc
Zinc is a very popular premium metal roofing material in Europe and has gained some traction in the United States recently. The most unique characteristic of zinc is its self healing properties. Zinc has a protective layer that prevents corrosion, scratching and other markings. If a piece of wind debris were to scratch a zinc roof, it would slowly heal and correct itself over time. Zinc is a very durable material too in addition to its self healing properties. Being able to last between 60 and 100 years when installed properly. Similar to copper, zinc develops a beautiful blue-gray patina as it ages, adding to a building's visual appeal. Overall zinc is the best choice for developers looking for a distinctly beautiful aesthetic and enhanced durability.
Panel Styles

1.5 Inches Tall Standing Seam, Snap Lock Panel
Snap lock metal roofing is a type of seam roofing where the seam is held together by clips screw fastened directly to the substrate. Individual snap lock panels have a male and female leg on opposite sides that allow them to snap together. Snap lock panels are easier for contractors to install as they don't require seaming. This makes snap lock metal roofing more cost effective while being durable and weather tight. Snap lock metal roofing is the best choice for projects with short panel runs and 3:12 or higher sloped roofs but should avoid extreme environments.

2 Inches Tall Standing Seam, Mechanical Lock Panel
Mechanical lock roofing is another type of seam roofing that uses clips like snap lock roofing does. Mechanical lock panel systems require an additional seaming operation though, unlike snap lock paneling. This offers a superior weather tight seal and is well suited for environments with extreme temperature fluctuations. Mechanical lock panels also have the added benefit of being compatible with any roof slope. Mechanical lock metal roofing is the best choice for projects in extreme environments and offers more compatibility for roof designs.

Bermuda Roof Panel, 1.5 Inch Profile
Bermuda roofing offers a beautifully unique aesthetic that simulates the traditional stepped appearance of Caribbean homes. This versatile system can be used for roofs, fascia and wall sliding. Bermuda panels are mounted horizontally unlike most other roofing systems where panels are mounted vertically. Bermuda roof panels are also designed with concealed fasteners that enhance the roof's look and make them highly resistant to wind uplift and corrosion. Bermuda panels are best suited for roof designs with a minimum of a 35 degree slope. Bermuda roofing is the best choice for developers seeking a perfect balance of beauty, versatility and durability.

Ceiling and Soffit Panel
Soffit refers to the underside of an architectural element. This can be eaves in a roof, an archway or a balcony. Soffit panels provide ventilation, moisture control, protection against pests and provides a clean finish to the undersides of a building.

Fascia
Roof fascia is a horizontal finishing edge that runs along a roof's lower edge. This critical component is used to support the roof and all the guttering. When properly installed, the fascia protects the roof, windows and siding from water damage and corrosion. Fascia also provides your project with a more professional and clean look in addition to its protective functions. Seamed fascia is the best choice for developers seeking a cost effective solution for guttering and sealing.

Seamless Fascia
Seamless fascia is a more modern variant of fascia. Unlike traditional seamed fascia, seamless fascia is entirely one piece. This provides a smoother and sleeker appearance while eliminating seams that may be prone to leaks. Seamless fascia also has better durability in comparison to traditional seamed fascia. Seamless fascia is the best choice for developers willing to pay more for better curb appeal and durability.

Flush Seam Panel, 1.5 Inches Off The Wall
Flush seam panels are designed for wall, fascia, soffit and screen wall applications where a flat or flush appearance is desired. Flush seam panels can be installed vertically or horizontally depending on the desired aesthetic. Desco Sheet Metal offers reveal options between 0 to 3 inches for flush seam panels.

Sheet metal gauge is a standard unit of measurement that specifies sheet thickness. Lower numbers indicate thicker sheet metal and higher numbers represent thinner sheet metal. Desco Sheet Metal offers 22 and 24 gauge options for all custom fabricated metal roofing, metal wall paneling and fascia. 24 gauge steel offers great durability and is well suited for seamed roofs and residential buildings. 22 gauge offers more durability and is well suited for commercial applications.
Pencil Rib

Pencil ribs in metal paneling are small rounded longitudinal ridges that add structural strength and minimize the appearance of oil canning. Oil canning is an aesthetic phenomenon that causes the panels to have a wavy or ripple effect. This is usually caused by temperature changes over a long time. Having no pencil rib can offer a truly smooth look while pencil rib can offer a modern and clean aesthetic with extra durability.
